Why does UPS ground take so long?

My package is in Richmond California, I live in Santa Rosa California. i live one hour from richmond. It is monday and i just shipped something from richmond to santa rosa, using UPS Ground. UPS is calculating that it will be here on wednesday. Shouldn't it be here later today?
