Should i get my canary de-sexed?

This is a new one for me! I've never heard of de-sexing a healthy bird. Maybe a bird w a prolapsed cloaca that isn't treatable any other way. Why ever would you want to neuter/spay or as they say down-under, de-sex a bird?
